Anya Taylor-Joy: The Best Part About Being Cast in the Super Mario Bros. Film

Anya Taylor-Joy News: Joy has found an unexpected bonus of her next position. ET’s Matt Cohen spoke with the 25-year-old actress at the Los Angeles premiere of Last Night in Soho on Monday, and she revealed the best part of getting to voice Princess Peach in the next Super Mario Bros. animated film.

“Oh, it’s a lot of fun,” says the narrator. “The star of Queen’s Gambit exclaimed, “We’ve already begun performing tiny bits and pieces of it.” “The coolest thing is that I can play games while pretending to do academics, work, or research, which is really fantastic.”

Joy said of the games she’s been playing in preparation for the role, “I have to.” “I feel forced to contribute since the fan following is so vast.” It’s a great deal of fun.”

Mario will be played by Chris Pratt, Luigi by Charlie Day, Bowser by Jack Black, Toad by Keegan-Michael Key, Donkey Kong by Seth Rogen, Cranky Kong by Fred Armisen, Kamek by Sebastian Maniscalco, and Spike by Charles Martinet.

In the meanwhile, Joy is promoting Last Night in Soho, the first film to receive its global debut at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

“It’s incredibly great for all of us to be here,” Joy said, clad in an antiqued gold lamé Dior Haute Couture long low-cut dress with herringbone pleating. “It’s great that we’re all completing at the same time, and what a beautiful location.”

Joy portrays stunning soprano Sandie in the Edgar Wright-directed psychological thriller set in the 1960s. The actress got into character by belting out Petula Clark’s “Downtown,” which she initially recorded in 1965.

To ET, Joy stated of her singing in the film, “It was great.” “I was scared since Edgar had never heard me sing before hiring me, so a part of me was thinking, ‘Oh god, I hope he likes it.’”

“We did the original in the movie, and then he said he wanted to do a couple more versions because he liked it so much,” she explained. “I just feel very, very lucky.”
