Green Lantern 2 Updates: Green Lantern director Martin Campbell scoffed at the idea of a sequel. Campbell has a number of other appearances before starring in Green Lantern in 2011. He won a BAFTA for the miniseries Edge of Darkness in 1985.

Green Lantern is a superhero action film based on the same-named DC Comics character. The narrative revolves around test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). He gets inducted into the Green Lantern Corps, an interstellar organization, as the first human member.

Hal is given a ring that grants him incredible talents, which he must use to save the universe from Parallax (Clancy Brown). The script was written by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim, and Michael Goldenberg. The rest of the cast includes Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins.

On a budget of around $200 million, Green Lantern made $219.9 million worldwide. This is a poor performance for Warner Bros. on a big-budget film, as they expected to make a lot more money to call it a success. It became a joke, in addition to the film’s low box office success.

While a trilogy had been discussed previously, Warner Bros. ultimately opted against it due to the film’s poor box office performance and the fact that fans just did not want to see more of this incarnation of the character.

As a consequence, it’s clear that a sequel to 2011’s film will never be created. This does not rule out a new Green Lantern picture, though Warner Bros. will have to tread carefully.
