Fishing advice from Kevin VanDam

Kevin VanDam

The bass begins to go deeper throughout the summer. However, before you can start fishing, you must first locate them. Kevin VanDam is always on the lookout for better bait for the deeper zones of the ocean. It’s a deep-diving crankbait that he prefers. Moving to a slower trick once you’ve caught a few fish is always an option.

The best food source for bass at that time of year will be where it is located. If you want to catch bass, you need to know when and where the baitfish are spawning. As the shad go to deeper water, where it is colder, following the spawn, the bass will begin to travel deeper. Changing the depth or contour of a piece of music is always associated with the bass. When you’re out angling for bass in the summer, keep an eye out for that structural element near a food supply.

Bass are most active in the early hours of the day and the late hours of the night. As the water heats and the stream speeds up, bass will seek places where they may ambush prey. Using a topwater or buzz bait in the shallows in the early morning is ideal. As the day progresses, look for fish in deeper water on the main lake that is more orientated to the current and target them with a crankbait.

During the summer, I particularly enjoy angling the weed borders of natural lakes. You’ll locate the bulk of the largemouth bass in the weeds, no matter what technique you choose.
