Locke and Key Season 3 Updates: Netflix has renewed Locke and Key for a third season, following an early renewal late last year that allowed production on new episodes to move forward quickly.

Fans will be relieved after the stunning Locke and Key season 2 conclusion, which saw an adversary from the family’s distant past resurface in an unexpected manner.

According to showrunner Meredith Averill, this new foe looks to be a level up from the Lockes’ prior foe Dodge, who described him as the Lockes’ “greatest threat” gone too far (via Collider).

“In the third season, it’s a lot more about the family,” she stated. “They’ll be confronted with the most perilous threat they’ve ever faced.” I’m afraid it goes far deeper than that.

NEW REVEALS: Will By the Grace of the Gods Season 2 Will be released in 2021?

Locke and Key Season 3

Darby Stanchfield, the star of Locke and Key, announced on Instagram in August 2021 that production on season three has wrapped, as well as giving us a sneak peak at some of the keys we could see in the next episodes.

Because production is so far ahead of schedule at the moment, RadioTimes.com expects Locke and Key to return sooner than expected, maybe in the first quarter of the year.

In the season two conclusion of Locke and Key, the eponymous family said their goodbyes to one of their own, Tyler (Connor Jessup), as he prepared to start a new life in Boston for university.

Jessup appears in Darby Stanchfield‘s aforementioned Instagram post from the set of the third season, hinting that his character returns to Matheson, maybe for his summer vacation.

We may also anticipate more from the other two Locke siblings, Kinsey and Bode, who are played by Emilia Jones and Jackson Robert Scott, respectively, after they settle into their roles as Keepers of the Keys.

Aaron Ashmore’s Uncle Duncan, who has had his memories returned, and Nina Locke of Stanchfield, who looks to be the next recipient of the Memory Key’s talents, will join them this time.

Kevin Durand’s terrifying villain Frederick Gideon has been confirmed to play a big part in the forthcoming season, and based on the finale, he isn’t messing around.

Patrice Jones (Scot), Asha Bromfield (Zadie), Jesse Camacho (Doug), and Eric Graise (Logan) are all expected to make an appearance in the future, providing the Lockes with even more Matheson Academy support.

It’s unclear whether Sherri Saum will reprise her role as Ellie Whedon, who was reunited with her son Rufus (Coby Bird) and long-lost boyfriend Lucas (Felix Mallard) in season two, but she wouldn’t be blamed if she wanted to leave Matheson.

Griffin Gluck and Layla De Oliveira are unlikely to return in season three, given that Dodge has already been defeated, and Genevieve Kang is also unlikely to return since Matheson Academy student Jackie Veda sadly died.

Locke and Key Season 3

Locke and Key Season 3 contains the following plot spoilers: What is going to happen next?

In the final scene of Locke and Key season two, the Echo of barbarian revolutionary war veteran Frederick Gideon, who is possessed by what may likely be The Black Door’s most terrifying creature, was seen.

Eden Hawkins, a demon student, was taken aback when she learned which of her siblings had snatched Gideon’s soul, but her astonishment turned to terror when he seized her ankles and flung her down a well.

Unlike the previous baddie Dodge, who developed a soft spot for Kinsey Locke throughout the course of the second season, it looks that this new foe will not be taking any prisoners.

Because Gideon does not feature in any of the Locke and Key comic books, the show’s source material will appear to be less of a guide in season three.

While some purists may be upset by significant changes to the original storey, this gives the upcoming season a feeling of utter unpredictability, which should make for exciting viewing.

There isn’t a trailer for Locke and Key season three yet, but with production on the third chapter already done, one might be released soon.
