In 1982, Robert A. Heinlein wrote a dedication to her in his novel Friday. It was named for her, 68410 Nichols. In recognition of her work in television, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1992 for her contributions. She was the first woman to receive the Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and horror films in 2016. AKA sorority is an honorary member of Nichelle Nichols’s fraternity. In 1999, Nichols was awarded the Goldene Kamera for becoming a “Cultstar of the Century.” In 2010, Los Angeles Mission College bestowed an honorary doctorate on Nichols.
