Taboo Season 2 News: The BBC has confirmed the second season of Tom Hardy’s 19th-century thriller Taboo, which means more James Delaney and his nasty companions from the League of the Damned. This has been known since the beginning of 2017.

Four years of waiting have passed with no sign of progress.

A statement made by Steven Knight stated that “James Delaney will continue to explore numerous worlds as he leads his band of misfits into a new universe” because “FX and the BBC, partners who could not be more suited to cooperate in breakthrough work”

We’re glad people want to know what happens next and that the BBC and FX are eager for more adventures with the devil Delaney and the league of the damned.

Launching in a new Saturday night slot on BBC One gave us a chance to showcase distinctive drama, said BBC Creative Director Charlotte Moore, and the growing talkability of Taboo has engaged younger audiences, with record numbers coming to iPlayer and the availability of the box set maximising audiences even further.

She went on to say, “Taboo Season 2 can’t arrive fast enough.”

It was “crazy” for BBC One to air a “very on the edge” show like “Taboo,” Steven stated in an interview.

However, the fact that it worked proves that it was inspired. A lot of people started talking about it, and that position was established. That Saturday-night drama had a pioneer in it.

Taboo Season 2 Release Date is TBD

Following FX’s debut on January 10, 2017, BBC One aired the first season on January 7, 2017.

Taboo Season 2’s filming was originally expected to begin in the first half of 2018. “I’m attempting to write it as rapidly as I can,” said Steven Knight.

I’d say we’d want to film it before the end of the year at the earliest.

Hardy and Knight looked to be delaying the release of additional Taboo in 2018 due to their hectic schedules.

Knight came up with the idea for Peaky Blinders.

For Apple’s TV+ service, he also developed and directed See (with Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard), starring Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard, in addition to Serenity (with Matthew McConaughey). He recently collaborated with Connor Swindells and Jack O’Connell on the forthcoming SAS: Rogue Heroes drama series.

In addition to Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Hardy had a full acting calendar. A police thriller directed by Gareth Evans will be released in 2020.

Hardy and Knight are also working on Great Expectations for BBC One and FX.

According to Knight, “It is a joy to adapt Dickens’ writing. In addition to the ageless characters and relevant plot, I choose Great Expectations as my next project to bring to the big screen. Pips journey from the forge to the outside world has special meaning to me as a Blacksmith’s son.

“We are pleased to begin this new stage of cooperation with Steven Knight, Ridley Scott, Tom Hardy and his teams as they rejoin for this modern adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations,” said FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier.

‘Great Expectations’ is the right option because of its topical and intimate tale,” Charlotte Moore said. It will be a must-see drama for a new audience thanks to Knight’s fresh take on one of Britain’s most-loved masterpieces.”

We finally got an update on Taboo in 2019, but it wasn’t all good news: Knight revealed that the next series’ screenplay had been completed, but filming would not begin until late 2019 or even early 2020.

Meanwhile, You Know What was occupying the attention of the great bulk of the film and television industry. Hardy and Knight’s demanding schedules meant that filming on Taboo hadn’t yet begun when we spoke.

Peaky Blinders star Tom Hardy and his wife Charlotte Riley, who played wealthy widow May Carleton in the programme, had a baby in January 2019.

As a result, work on the project’s pre-production was halted.

Esquire published an interview with Hardy in August 2021 in which he discussed taboos in the entertainment industry.

Taboo Season 2 is crucial to him, and he’s spent a lot of time thinking about it since he loved the first and wants the second to be just as satisfying.

Delaney: “We’re still exploring with concepts, you could go linear, a continuation of time, or we could drop prior to London [the first season opened with Delaney returning to London after years absent in Africa], or we could quantum-leap over time!” In the end, I’m not sure if sticking with what’s tried and true is the best course of action.

Hardy appears to have given some thought to the future of the show.

His thoughts went something like this: ‘Let’s assume they make it to America or Canada,’ he thought. ‘Then fast forward to 1968. The Tet Offensive. The Viet Cong. The French in Saigon. Consider how history and corruption repeat themselves by taking the Delaney family tree and re-creating the identical familial dynamics that were occurring in London with new people.

It’s still Taboo, it’s still a time period, but it’s the Sixties.” Hardy noted. That’s a lot of fun to do. There are other options as well, such as going back to the 1800s. Are you talking about the Napoleonic Wars? The American Revolutionary War? But I haven’t had a ‘That’s it!’ moment in my heart, head, or workstation, so I’m holding on.”

As co-creators of the programme, the only person who can be counted on for a future appearance is Hardy.

In 2017, Hardy informed us that the BBC One drama Oliver Twist and Bill Sykes, in which he portrayed Bill Sykes, was the inspiration for the programme.

I wanted to be Bill Sykes and Sherlock Holmes and Hannibal Lecter and Heathcliff and Marlow from Heart of Darkness,” Hardy once admitted. “An amalgamation of all the best-known characters in ancient literature.”

During an interview, Knight was asked why he had such a great working connection with the show’s lead. His response might surprise you.

The reason it works, according to Knight, is that the two of us don’t interact much. “We do it every now and again, but it’s rare.” It’s all about the job, in my opinion, and not the other way around.” Tom’s greatest asset is that he approaches his work with a sense of passion. The performance. Celebrities don’t hold any appeal to him. However, he is purely an actor at heart. He is enamoured with both the method and the product.

Because he can deliver on what you’ve written, I find it beneficial to have him fill in on occasion for jobs I’ve created.

The principal cast members, including Mark Gatiss, Lorna Bow/Delaney, Stephen Graham, David Hayman, Edward Hogg, Jason Watkin, and Nicholas Woodeson, might all return.

Scroobius Pip and Roger Ashton Griffiths are also included, along with Tom Hollander, Marina Hands, Lucian Msamati, and Louis Serkis, all of whom might return.

In the first season, we lost Oona Chaplin, Jefferson Hall, Leo Bill, Michael Kelly, and Jonathan Pryce, all of whom are unlikely to return unless they bother James Delaney from beyond the grave.

Taboo Season 2 Predicted Plot

While Steven Knight has hinted at what may happen next, James and his remaining buddies set ship for America at the end of the first season.

Exciting things is going to happen, Steven said, and Knight agreed. However, “I don’t know if we’ll be able to discuss all of the specifics of it at this time.”

Second chapter “goes west and gets a little narcotic, opium-affected” in the second chapter, according to him. ”

As part of the interview, Hardy talked to Entertainment Weekly about Delaney’s pals and why they’re so smitten with Delaney.

Hardy remarked, “He’s put together a broad group of people… That bunch, the not-so-polished members of society, has a weird dignity about it.

James is the least violent in the room, whether he’s in the presence of the king or not. That was one of the most important aspects of the original series.” Individuals seen by others to be more savage have banded together to pool their combined brains and create a formidable force.

Everyone who climbs aboard that boat has something really honest and honourable about them.

In light of Hardy’s claims, it’s possible that this season of Taboo will focus on the “Colonnade” US spy network.

James is vague about how much information he will share when he adds, “We are Americans.” “In his thinking, you will know when the time is appropriate.”

According to the Radio Times, Taboo Season 2 was predicted by looking at real-life events that occurred during this time period.

Season one was heavily influenced by the British-American War of 1812, which was finally settled in 1815.

As an alternative, it’s possible that James will discover new information regarding his Native American heritage through his mother’s tribe. Taboo Season 2’s events may shed light on James’ tattoo and other dark tidbits about his personal history.

Is Season 3 of Taboo in the Works?

To minimise staleness, Taboo will only run for three seasons, with Knight having a very clear picture of the show’s three-act structure in his brain from the beginning.

Unless Hardy can persuade Knight to abandon the framework and advance the action a few decades or maybe a century forward, James Delaney’s enigmatic cosmos will be reduced to “The Escape,” “The Journey,” and “The Escape.”

It was always planned that Taboo’s story would be played out across three seasons, according to Knight in an interview.

If we all stay with it and want to keep doing it, it’ll be three seasons, Knight said. That’s what I intend to do. Because I’ve mapped out a general path for it to follow. You might say it’s a trip to the west.”

“I know where I’m going. When you’re embarking on a long journey like writing three eight-hour days, it’s usually a good idea to take some time to yourself. You should always have an idea of where you’re going

It all boils down to Tom,”” Landgraf remarked. In the end, it’s all about what Tom wants to do and when he wants to do it.”””

A season in which Tom would be a part but not the focus of attention has been discussed, and is currently being discussed.

However, he appears to be deeply invested in this character and this programme. Steven, on the other hand, is still enthusiastic about writing it, but Tom’s availability is the deciding factor.”
